USA - 9to5Mac reports that in an effort to circumvent the hefty tariffs imposed by the US government on Chinese imports, Apple has begun assembling its latest iPhone 16e model in Brazil. This move comes as part of the tech giant’s broader plan to diversify its manufacturing operations and reduce its reliance on China amid the escalating trade war between the two economic superpowers.
USA - “A nation in which one administration can allow millions of unvetted illegal migrants into the country, but requires that a court vet each deportation decision in an individually adjudicated case will soon lose the values our democratic system was intended to preserve,” Bill Ackman. Radical Representative Jamie Raskin, son of a communist professor, promises punishments for political opponents for “unleashing authoritarians and fascism.” Radical leftist Jamie Raskin says his political opposition will face repercussions for unleashing “fascist chaos” should Dems regain power: “When we come back to power — and we will — are not going to look kindly upon people who facilitated authoritarianism in our country." Ironically, all the authoritarianism and fascism is coming from the Democrats.
UK - The historian and author of Allies at War says that America is in danger of forgetting two key lessons from the alliance that won the Second World War. During the war, Winston Churchill liked to remark that “there is only one thing worse than fighting with allies, and that is fighting without them”. As extraordinary as it may seem, this is the scenario European states are now being forced to contemplate: holding the line against a revanchist Russia without the assistance of their principal ally and traditional shield, the United States.
USA - Our current way of life could not continue without rare earth minerals. Every single day of our lives, all of us depend on technology that was built using rare earth minerals. In fact, the device that you are reading this article on right now probably contains rare earth minerals. Ultimately, rare earth minerals aren’t actually that rare, but processing those minerals is extremely complex, and at this point the vast majority of that processing is done in China. Efforts are already underway to create complete rare earth supply chains here in the United States, but new processing facilities will not start coming online until 2027 at the earliest. So what will happen to our economy between now and then?
VATICAN - Pope Francis, the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, has died at the age of 88, the Vatican has said. "This morning at 07:35 local time (05:35 GMT) the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father," Cardinal Kevin Farrell said in the statement, which was published by the Vatican on its Telegram channel. His death comes after he appeared at the Vatican's St Peter's Square on Sunday to wish "Happy Easter" to thousands of worshippers. The governing of the Church will now be handled by the College of Cardinals, its most senior officials, until the new Pope is chosen. There are currently 252 Catholic cardinals, 138 of whom are eligible to vote for the new Pope. They will be summoned to a meeting at the Vatican, followed by the conclave, as the election is known.
IRAN - In a huge and rare development after being archrivals for many years and decades, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman Al Saud arrived in Tehran on Thursday, where he was greeted by Major General Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of Iran’s Armed Forces. The two top officials are holding a number of meetings to discuss "bilateral relations and issues of common interest,” the state-run Saudi Press Agency said. A senior Saudi royal last visited Iran all the way back in 1997 - when King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz made the trip amid hopes for a breakthrough with 'reformist' Iranian leaders at the time.
ITALY - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni clapped back at reporters and dropped a powerful new populist slogan on Thursday at the White House. Before stepping into the Oval Office, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with President Trump and his cabinet to talk trade. The press showed up eager to ignite a headline, hoping for signs of a looming tariff war between the US and the EU.
RUSSIA - As global tensions climb and Europe’s leadership continues to drift away from the interests of its people, Russia is sounding the alarm over Germany’s latest flirtation with war. The Kremlin issued a clear warning on Thursday: if Berlin green-lights the transfer of Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine, it will mark Germany’s full-blown entry into the conflict, bringing with it severe consequences, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported.
RUSSIA - Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has suggested that Germany’s incoming chancellor could revive a dark era in history, in response to a report that he will pledge to “assume responsibility again” in an Easter address. On Saturday, Bild reported that in the speech, Friedrich Merz will promise that “Germany will again assume responsibility – in Europe and in the world. Not loudly, but reliably. Not arrogantly, but in a partner-like manner.” In a post on her Telegram channel later on Saturday, Zakharova jocularly inquired “to which historical period” the “again” in Merz’s purported address refers.
USA - By the time this is published, everything may have changed, and that is to be expected. Throughout his career, well before and since becoming a politician, Trump has explicitly stated that he does not think it is always a good strategy to be predictable. And while markets love predictability, sometimes markets, and the systems propping them up, need disruption. This is such a moment.
USA - President Trump recently claimed that the country possesses weapons “nobody has any idea” about. The US possesses technology that can “manipulate” and “bend time and space,” White House innovation czar Michael Kratsios has claimed. Kratsios delivered the remarks at the Endless Frontiers Retreat in Austin, Texas, just weeks after being confirmed as director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. He emphasized President Donald Trump’s ambition to usher in a new “golden age of America,” which includes fostering scientific research and the application of cutting-edge technologies. According to Kratsios, the US can emerge as a global leader by making “smart choices” regarding public funding and deregulating innovation. “Our technologies permit us to manipulate time and space. They leave distance annihilated, cause things to grow, and improve productivity,” he stated, without elaborating.
USA - It’s not as if it was ever a secret: The very core of the woke movement is fundamentally rooted in evil. The general definition of “evil” being a conscious act of deception and destruction, the deliberate victimization of others for the sake of personal power, pleasure and gain. When I try to imagine what a religion of evil might look like I consistently come back to the far-left woke movement along with its rabid mantras, agendas and self righteous narcissism.
USA - Holding the receipts for 10 seconds absorbs enough bisphenol S to break California’s safety rule, research finds. The Center for Environmental Health (CEH) non-profit has sent violation notices to about 50 major retailers alerting them to the exceedance of California’s Proposition 65 limits for BPS. Among the companies to which notices were sent for the allegedly illegal levels of BPS in their receipts are Burger King, Chanel, Dollar General, AMC Theaters, GameStop, Subway, Foot Locker and Ace Hardware. “[The findings were] really eye-opening for us,” Mihir Vohra, science lead at the CEH, said. “They really speak to just how high the concentrations of BPS are in these receipts.”
EUROPE - “The West no longer exists”, Ursula von der Leyen has said while defending a “stronger Europe” in a riposte to President Trump’s administration and its “bros” and “oligarchs making the rules”. The president of the European Commission declared that Europe was the best place for democracy, equality, healthcare and for the middle class. In an interview with Die Zeit, von der Leyen, 66, said that “the West as we knew it no longer exists”, while contrasting Washington’s unpredictable behaviour and tariff chaos to the EU’s commitment to global trade.
EUROPE - When it comes to carrots and sticks, Donald Trump prefers to use the latter to persuade other nations to do America’s bidding. The US president has unveiled sweeping tariffs on imports and has accused allies and enemies alike of ripping off America. China, by contrast, has seen an opportunity to turn on the charm. Beijing sees an opening to exploit Trump’s belligerence and forge closer ties with Europe as the US rips up the existing global trade system.
