These meetings support NATO 2030 agenda and decisions to broaden and strengthen NATO’s relations with like-minded partners, including international organisations. In his engagements, the Deputy Secretary General reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to the international rules-based order.

VATICAN - Joe Biden has arrived in Rome ahead of the G20 summit this weekend, flying out late Thursday after delaying his flight due to wrangling on Capitol Hill over his $1.75 trillion health and social care spending package. The President landed in the early hours of Friday morning alongside wife Jill, ahead of a meeting with Pope Francis before world leaders sit down for two days of negotiations due to begin on Saturday.

UK - COP26 is set to end in failure with experts saying that participating countries will not agree on sufficient cut to emissions, while Russia and China fail to show up at all. The climate change event, which begins this Saturday, is billed as an attempt to "keep 1.5 alive" - the target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. But Oliver Geden, an expert in the political economy of climate change at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, told POLITICO: "It's currently not plausible that this will happen because you don't even have the early signs that the big players want to do that.”

VATICAN - The Vatican on Thursday abruptly canceled the planned live broadcast of US President Joe Biden meeting Pope Francis, the latest restriction to media coverage of the Holy See. The Vatican press office provided no explanation for why the live broadcast of Biden’s visit had been trimmed to cover just the arrival of the president’s motorcade in the courtyard of the Apostolic Palace, where a Vatican monsignor will greet him. Cancelled was any live coverage of Biden actually greeting Francis in the palace Throne Room, as well as the live footage of the two men sitting down to begin their private talks in Francis’ library, at which time the cameras normally would have stopped running. The Vatican said it would provide edited footage of the encounter after the fact to accredited media. Biden, the second Catholic US president, has met Francis three previous times, but this will be his first as president.

EUROPE - The European Court of Justice has said on Wednesday that it ordered Poland to pay a million euro (around $1.2 million) every day until it brings its judicial system in line with European Union standards. The harsh penalty was "necessary in order to avoid serious and irreparable harm to the legal order of the European Union and tothe values on which that Union is founded, in particular that of the ruleof law," the Luxembourg-based court said in its ruling. The fine comes in response to the controversial decision by Poland's Constitutional Tribunal, which earlier this month prioritized national laws over those of the European Court of Justice (ECJ).
