From the Babylon of Gilgamesh to the post-Eden of Noah, every age has viewed climate change cataclysmically, as retribution for human greed and sinfulness. In the 1970s, the fear was "global cooling." The Christian Science Monitor then declaimed, "Warning: Earth's climate is changing faster than even experts expect," while The New York Times announced, "A major cooling of the climate is widely considered inevitable." Sound familiar? Global warming represents the latest doom-laden "crisis," one demanding sacrifice to Gaia for our wicked fossil-fuel-driven ways.

Jordan has been quietly purchasing real estate surrounding the Temple Mount in Jerusalem in hopes of gaining more control over the area accessing the holy site, according to Palestinian and Israeli officials. The officials confirmed to WND the Jordanian Kingdom has been using shell companies during the past year to purchase several apartments and shops located at key peripheral sections of the Temple Mount. The officials said Jordan also set up a commission to use the companies to petition mostly Arab landowners adjacent to eastern sections of the Temple Mount to sell their properties. They said profits from sales at any purchased shops would be reinvested to buy more real estate near the Mount and in eastern Jerusalem neighbourhoods.
A German appeals court has not only affirmed a lower court's decision that ripped a 15-year-old homeschooler from her family and subjected her to a forced stay in a psychiatric hospital because she is homeschooled, but also ordered her parents to be given psychiatric evaluations, an international rights organization says. Joel Thornton, president of the International Human Rights Group told WND that fears the state will use those court-approved tests to destroy the family of Melissa Busekros are very valid.

Last July, as North Korea prepared for ballistic missile tests, Admiral William Fallon picked up the telephone to warn his Chinese military counterparts of the U.S.'s deep concern, and urge them to weigh in against the launches. There was just one problem: The commander of all U.S. forces in the Pacific, who had spent two years cultivating ties with Chinese leaders, couldn't reach anyone to deliver his message. "I just couldn't get somebody to answer the phone," Fallon says. "Nobody wanted to talk."

John Conyers, the head of the House Judiciary Committee, whose work is being called "The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007," according to the Rev. Ted Pike, of the National Prayer Network. He said a letter to other members of the House was intercepted by Focus on the Family and indicated that it "gives the federal government even more power to create a bias motivation justice system, turning America into a police state."
Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet's recent climate changes have a natural and not a human- induced cause, according to one scientist's controversial theory. Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.

A delegation from the Vatican has arrived in Vietnam for the latest round of negotiations on establishing diplomatic ties between the two sides.
The visit comes shortly after the detention of a Catholic priest as well as allegation of abuses of believers by local officials in the country.
Vietnam's government wants to establish relations quickly but the Vatican wants to see several issues resolved first.
China has welcomed the Vatican's new move to resolve their differences, calling it "a step forward". The Vatican had called for an end to past misunderstandings after a two-day meeting in Rome to review Church strategy towards China. Diplomatic ties have been broken since the 1950s and the sides have clashed on the ordination of bishops and Taiwan. China's state-sanctioned church has four million followers with millions more in groups loyal to the Vatican.
