EUROPE - The EU must increase its military strength and internal cooperation, but that does not mean it should aspire to a single army, the bloc’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, has said. In an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Monday, the foreign policy chief insisted there is a “strong consensus” among EU members on boosting the bloc’s defense capabilities, both in terms of its military industry and armed forces.
“This is not a question of creating the singular European army,” Borrell said, adding that all 27 EU members are free to decide their own defense policies. Instead, the armies of EU members need to be “more interoperational” in order to strengthen the bloc’s defense, the diplomat argued.
“We have to increase our military capacities… But it is utopical to believe that we are going to cancel the 27 armies to create a single one. What we have to do is to be more realistic,” Borrell said. "The bloc is well aware of the harsh realities of the modern world and is preparing accordingly," he added.
It could well be that the formation of this huge army only comes together right at the end of this age. Revelation 17 tells of 10 kings - who become leaders right at the end - agreeing to “give their power and strength to the beast” (Revelation 17:13).
This seems to imply that the European nations do not unite right up until the last minute. Due to a major crisis? But when they do come together, they become an all powerful force. As Revelation 13:4 points out, “Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?”
And the timing? Continue in the following verse: “...power was given unto him to continue forty and two months” (Revelation 13:5).
That "forty two months" is equal to 1260 days - or three and a half prophetic years - the period of the Great Tribulation.
Only the power of God can bring about this “unity”! “For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled…” (Revelation 17:17).
